For many English couples, starting a new life in a picturesque French village is a lifelong dream. But with the pressure that's put on relationships in a foreign country, the dream can easily become a nightmare. Through break-ups, bad luck or bereavement, many people can find themselves alone in a land where they don't speak the language and don't understand the customs.
