Trains are partially up and running in some of Japan's most devastated areas after last month's tsunami and earthquke. Operators say service will be fully operational and back on schedule by Friday.

Train service on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori partially resumed services on Monday. It's been out of operation since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

Trains will run between Tokyo and Sendai, including stops in Fukushima outside of the no go area, near the troubled nuclear power plant.

Railway officials say the line will be fully operational by this Friday.

Some passengers at Sendai station are happy the train is running again.

[Passenger]:
"It is really nice. The fact that it is moving again is great, I feel it now actually."

But for others, safety remains a concern.

[Passenger]:
"I don't think we should rush ahead so quickly. I want it to resume steadily."

The new aerodynamic green, pink and silver train named "Hayabusa" in Japanese, is one of the fastest in the nation. It travels at 180 miles an hour.

The Sendai to Fukushima section of the line runs through the region most severely affected by the earthquake.

The service began just one week before the earthquake and having it back in operation is seen as one of the milestones of recovery for northern Japan.
