Belching ash from Chile's Puyehue volcano is seriously affecting Australian Airlines. The ash is blowing in over southern parts of Australia and New Zealand. The sheer height of the ash cloud continues to pose a serious threat to aircraft forcing Airlines to cancel all flights for a fourth day.

Air travellers form long queues at Perth airport, as air travel is disrupted in Australia for a fourth day.

Perth is the latest city to be affected by the ash cloud which has been carried east over the Pacific from Chile's Puyehue volcano

The volcano has been spewing ash since June 4th, some blown by prevailing winds to reach southern parts of Australia and New Zealand.

In and around Perth fine ash particles are sitting between 20,000 and 35,000 feet, which pose a danger to aircraft bodies and engines.

Virgin, Qantas and Jetstar cancelled all flights to and from the city.

Some passengers have been stranded for days.

[Unidentified Traveller]:
"It's costing us thousands of dollars in real terms. We've just got to organise accommodation and transport. It's all extra money coming out of our wallet everyday. We just want to go home."

Ash from a different volcano was also the reason behind air travel disruption in Europe last month, while last year an eruption at Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull glacier caused worldwide aviation chaos affecting an estimated 10 million people.
