PlayStation Exclusives to Maintain PS Vita's Relevance

When the PlayStation Vita was announced on January 27th of this year, the media along with a plethora of gamers were stunned by the amount of tech and hardware Sony was integrating within the handheld. Between withholding a quad-core CPU and quad-core GPU to display on a 5” OLED display, there was no debating that Sony was taking handheld gaming seriously. The one thing we were all worried about was the price at which Sony would demand for this product at launch. Thankfully, Sony was able to do what they needed to do in order to introduce the device to the market at a reasonable price in which most gamers can find a way to purchase.
While there is absolutely no debating involved over the power of this device, we cannot forget the revolutionized mobile market that has sparked notably from the launch of the iPhone back in 2007. When the Nintendo DS and PSP launched back in 2004/2005, mobile phones were not offering what is offered today. With devices such as the iPhone 4 and the recently released, HTC EVO 3D, mobile devices are encroaching the specs of computers in little to no time. To think that the Motorola RAZR was the phone to have back in 2005 is comical today as we possess devices containing dual-core processors, 3D cameras, and so much more.
With the mobile phone industry progressing at such a rapid pace, gaming is not being left behind. When the original PSP launched, titles such as Tetris, Solitaire, and Bowling were considered to be games for the mobile platforms. Today, we have mobile games surpassing what has been done on handhelds dedicated to gaming. Just recently, Gameloft released a collection of games in full 3D for the Android platform such as Asphalt 6 3D, N.O.V.A. 3D, and more for those devices who support 3D functionality such as the HTC EVO 3D or LG’s Optimus 3D. All being made possible on devices that were designed to make calls, glasses-free 3D is now emerging and only time will tell what’s next.
