Some of the common networking mistakes that I see professionals and executives making are: asking the wrong question during their networking encounters. You don’t want to ask people if they know of an open job. You want to ask people for introductions. You want to build new relationships, and leverage the connections that you have to meet new people who may be able to help you in your search. I think another mistake that people make is having an expectation of wanting too much, too soon. Relationships are built over time. They need to be nurtured, and in the best scenario you’re building your relationship months, if not years, before you actually need that help from your network.
