Tanks on the outskirts of Homs. Just 85 miles north of Damascus, the city has become a hotbed for anti-government demonstrations and clashes with security forces.

More than 80 civilians are believed to have been killed in Homs in the past few days.
Reports of ongoing violence in the area on Saturday prompted Arab League Secretary Nabil Elaraby to call on Damascus to stop the bloodshed and abide by a plan to pull security forces out of the major cities.
