Kourou - New launch for the European Spaceport | Tomorrow Today

In October a Russian Soyuz rocket lifted of from Kourou, in French Guiana, for the first time. Up to now, the facility was used exclusively for launching European Ariane rockets. Kourou’s equatorial location is well-suited for space mission starts. Furthermore, satellites can also be sent into orbit from here.To keep up with competitors in India and China, the European Space Agency wants to specialize in shipping objects into space. The new ESA rocket Vega is expected to give the program a boost when it’s launched from Kourou in the near future.
