Mt. Gamalama erupts, thousands flee

Smoke rises from Indonesia's Mount Gamalama, which erupted on Monday.
It spewed lava and ash across Ternate island.
Residents watch with worry as cold lava flows towards their homes.
Thousands evacuated but many returned only to see heavy rains intensifying the lava flows.
The alert level on Mount Gamalama has been lowered a notch to the second highest level.
No casualties have been reported so far.
The volcano is on one of the former Spice Islands, and villagers make a living growing cloves on its foothills.
