PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT
Amid the stifling atmosphere of trendy indie and dull pop, it's refreshing to see the rise and rise of a band like dc tempest, who understand the value of classic stadium-filling, fist-clenching, intelligent rock, and aren't afraid to bring it bang up to date. Unashamed in their love of Bruce Springsteen and U2, dc tempest have taken the classic rock formula and comfortably made it their own, while gathering their own faithful audience and making the critics sit up and take notice. Dc Tempest are Dublin through and through, as evidenced by their DC (Dublin City) nickname, and embrace all that's best loved about the city on the Liffey, encapsulating the soul, the scuffle and the scuzz of the buzzing Capital in their freewheeling indie rock, which takes its cues from the best of Ireland's old masters. The old town has been kind to them in return, as they've won over successive crowds in some of the city's best venues and sent out vibrations across the Irish music scene.
There's no gimmick here, no sparkle or glitter or distraction: just another payload of that solid, sing-along rock that's been keeping the Irish ahead of the pack for half a century. dc tempest have the personality, the chops and the talent to become natural heirs to the rock throne, and it's exciting to watch them blossom. In the absence of hype, dc tempest made their own name by writing classic, mature and instantly embraceable rock. Without indie gimmicks or faddish fashion sense, they've had to rely on their own charm, elegance and force of personality to get the word out, and they've done it on their own terms.
