Scientists in northern Italy have discovered more secrets from the 5,300 year-old corpse of "Oetzi" the Iceman. A genetic study sheds light on his physical traits and even health issues.

Scientists from northern Italy have revealed intriguing new details about "Oetzi," or the Iceman - the world's oldest mummified corpse.

The Iceman is estimated to be 5 thousand 3 hundred years old.

It was found sticking out of a glacier by two climbers in 1991 in the Oetztaler Alps on the Austro-Italian border.

Researchers have been examining him for some twenty years, but extensive DNA research had not been completed.

Scientists from The European Academy of Bolzano (EURAC), who are in charge of the research project, have now mapped out his full genome.

They discovered he probably had brown eyes, was lactose intolerant and that he was infected by a Lyme disease bacterium.

The findings have shown he was more closely related to inhabitants from Corsica and Sardinia than people from the Alps where he was found.

The mummy is kept in conditions that mimic the natural environment in which he was preserved.

He remains in a special chamber kept at a constant temperature of minus six degrees centigrade.
