Steam spews from erupting volcano

Scientists take a closer look at New Zealand's Mount Tongariro, which continues to emit steam after erupting for the first time in over a century.

Aerial footage showed huge plumes of steam rising from at least three new vents in the mountainside.

Tongariro, a complex of multiple volcanic cones, roared back to life as craters on the mountain exploded on Monday (August 6) after being dormant for 115 years.

Volcanologists said increased seismic activities had been observed since July this year.

They are hoping to take further samples from near the crater to examine the driving force of the eruption and the likelihood of a further outbreak.
