Cleric Arrested for Planting Koran Burning Evidence - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.

A Muslim cleric in Pakistan has been accused of planting evidence on a young Christian girl who was arrested for allegedly burning pages of the Koran, which violates the country’s Islamic blasphemy laws.

His assistants told the magistrate in the case that the Koran pages were added to the burnt papers that had been found on the young girl. When told not to do this by his colleagues he reportedly replied by saying “You know this is the only way to expel the Christians from this area.” He has been arrested on blasphemy charges for tearing out pages of the Koran and adding them to the evidence.

Religious tensions have continued to escalate around the case, with some Muslims reportedly seeing the cleric’s arrest as a Christian conspiracy against the laws protecting their beliefs. Activists in favor of the young girl say that she has mental deficiencies and in light of the new evidence regarding her case, she should no longer be detained.
