US lifts Myanmar import restrictions

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Wednesday the U.S. would begin easing import restrictions on goods from Myanmar.
Clinton held talks with Myanmar President Thein Sein on Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.
(SOUNDBITE (English) U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE HILLARY CLINTON SAYING:
"And in recognition of the continued progress toward reform and in response to requests from both the government and the opposition, the United States is taking the next step in normalizing our commercial relationship."
The move is good news to the Southeast Asian nation as it emerges from years of political and economic isolation.
Earlier this month, the European Union granted Myanmar quota and duty-free access to European markets.
