Justin Bieber made headlines with his acceptance speech at the American Music Awards. The teen star - who swept the awards with three wins including artist of the year - had a message for all those who doubted his staying power.

SOUNDBITE: Justin Bieber saying (English):

"This is for all the haters who thought that maybe I was just here for one or two years, but I feel like I am going to be here for a very long time."

Carly Rae Jepsen picked up the coveted new artist-of-the-year award over One Direction.

And Taylor Swift added to her extensive collection of honorS with the award for favorite female country artist.

Jackie Chan will no longer be packing punches. The action star told reporters that his upcoming film "Chinese Zodiac 2012" would be his last big action movie, choosing instead to dedicate his life to philanthropy. Chan said he hopes to set an example with China's leagues of newly wealthy citizens.

Finally, Peter Jackson's new film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is raising controversy even before it's been released. Wranglers in New Zealand have complained that as many as 27 animals died as a result of conditions on the set. A rep for Jackson has confirmed an unspecified number of deaths related to conditions on a farm that was housing the animals, but said conditions were fixed as soon as production supervisors learned of them. "The Hobbit" opens on December 14.
