Heavy fighting hits a ring road on the outskirts of central Damascus, as Syrian government forces try to halt a rebel advance.

This amateur footage, which cannot be independently verified, is said to show a checkpoint in Jobar on Thursday (February 7).

Opposition fighters say government warplanes bombarded the area.

For more than 36 hours rebels have overrun army positions encircling the heart of the city.

This footage shows the fighters moving into Jobar on Wednesday (February 6).

While opposition fighters have seen gains across parts of the country, they've so far been kept away from the centre of Damascus.

Here, footage is said to show rebels capturing an area in Jobar - at the expense of government troops.

Activists say at least 46 people were killed around the capital on Thursday.

Syrian state media says rebels have since been pushed back from Jobar and other eastern districts.
