Anchorage School Janitors Facing Layoffs

School janitors in Anchorage are facing layoffs.
A tough economy means a higher number of layoffs. The Anchorage School District is dealing with a $25 million shortfall.
School authorities may have to cut up to 200 staff support personnel, including janitors. (1,9,1) 61-year-old, Pen Miller is one member of the high school clean-up staff affected.
She is concerned, as only one custodian for multiple schools is expected to remain working following the layoffs. (1,7,1) The school district has stated that cleaning methods will be different in the following year.
Some spaces will not be cleaned and tidied every night, which could mean excess germs and bacteria could be passed on. Teachers may also have to share some of the cleaning responsibilities. (1,14,1)
