Obama warns US Congress as budget cuts loom

Barack Obama is pressing the US Congress to avoid a government shutdown when federal spending authority runs out on March 27, saying it is the "right thing to do."
With automatic spending cuts set to take effect later on Friday, the US president said legislators must also take action to extend an unrelated "continuing resolution" to fund most government operations beyond the current expiration date.

Al Jazeera spoke to Ryan Grim, the Washington Bureau Chief at the Huffington Post, who said both the Democrats and the Republicans have been manufacturing crises over the past couple of years to force action that the public at large does not want.
