PlayStation Vita's Fate in the Hands of PlayStation 4 - Nick's Gaming View Episode #138

Ubisoft officially announces Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Sony placing the Vita’s fate within the hands of the PlayStation 4, and Crytek turns heads with statement regarding the dissolve of single-player experiences, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. Despite Assassin’s Creed III launching just four months ago, Ubisoft has confirmed the upcoming sequel, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, featuring a new hero and time period. While no further details have been provided, other than artwork, which reveals the game will involve pirates and that the PS3 edition will include 60 minutes of exclusive gameplay; Ubisoft has announced that on March 4th at 9am Pacific, they will be announcing the first details regarding their ongoing project. Will we see Assassin’s Creed IV touch next-gen platforms? How will Ubisoft improve upon Assassin’s Creed III? These are questions that will hopefully be answered come March 4th; let’s just hope if Ubisoft has learned anything from the franchise’s previous release, we will not be tortured by another four-hour tutorial.

With PlayStation 4 trending in the media more than a week after its initial announcement, as expected, Sony has released a statement regarding its hope that the upcoming PlayStation will help revive their poorly performing handheld, the PlayStation Vita by stating “I think it was a big, big step for PS Vita…We often use the adage PS Vita was aiming to be a PS3 in your pocket...it’s more than that. It’s a PS4 in your pocket.” What was shown during PlayStation’s February 20th event regarding Sony’s matured Remote Play feature is certainly impressive, but considering Sony has shown such technology in the past and not followed through, I will wait before getting too excited and even if all goes as planned, is this enough to bring the Vita back to life? Considering it will take time for the PS4 to really go mainstream, I feel it is a bit late, but I invite you all to chime in with your thoughts.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Crytek, the developer behind the Crysis franchise, recently turned heads by stating “I think the notion of a single-player experience has to go away,” With many gamers, such as myself, still appreciating quality single-player experiences, my eyebrows instantly rose, but Crytek did follow up by stating “However, I’m not saying that there will be no single-player experiences ... it could be it’s called Connected Single-Player or Online Single-Player instead.” It will be interesting to see how Crytek pulls this off, but regardless of how innovative it may be, I feel there is still a large market for offline single-player.
