Saints Row 4 PAX East Appearance without THQ? - Nick's Gaming View Episode #139
  • 11 years ago
Saints Row 4 to likely invade PAX East, Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed IV details, and Crytek builds even more concern for Nintendo’s Wii U platform, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. Despite the collapse of THQ in January, the confirmation of Saints Row 4 back in 2011 has not dissolved as Deep Silver, the publisher of the Saints Row franchise, acquired the series for $22.3 million because of THQ’s failure to be successful. In fact, Aubrey Norris, Marketing Manager at Deep Silver, tweeted the following “Dear media: You're going to want to be at PAX East this year. If not, you're going to be missing out on something HUGE. Just FYI!” While Deep Silver does have Sacred 3 and Dead Island Riptide in the works for this year, considering both games have received their fair share of publicity and Saints Row 4 has been in development for a healthy amount of time, I would be shocked to not receive an announcement come PAX East 2013.

Another title we are sure to hear more from come PAX East 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has officially received details after its somewhat quiet confirmation last week. Launching October 29th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii U with next-generation versions launching on a yet to be determined release date, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will focus on the golden age of piracy as players explore the Caribbean as a buccaneer during the 18th century. Assassin’s Creed IV follows the exploits of the new protagonist, Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed III’s hero Connor, who rises from a poor family to pursue the rich life of a pirate. Because of the storyline, Black Flag will feature a strong focus on naval combat where players will have their own pirate crew and ship to navigate around the Caribbean in search of enemy ships and islands. As a fan of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and one who fell in love with the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed III, I am stoked for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed release and considering it will be releasing on the next PlayStation, I am stoked to claim the release as one of my first PlayStation 4 titles. Ubisoft has revealed “In addition to improved graphics and physics, Next Gen versions will bring to the players new connected features allowing them to feel that even if they remain ‘Single Player.’”

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Crytek, the team behind the Crysis franchise, has established more concern in the future of Nintendo’s Wii U console, by proclaiming their reasoning for the absence of Crysis 3 on the Wii U. From Crytek’s CEO himself “We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn't launch on the Wii U ourselves—we don't have a publishing license—Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die.” Hearing such information from a well established developer is a bit concerning and while most Nintendo fans purchase their hardware for their first-party software, limiting third party support, is a very poor decision for the company who shocked the industry with the success of the Wii.
