Square Enix’s Eidos Montreal unveils next-generation release, Visceral Games responds to accusations of the Dead Space franchise dying, and PlayStation Vita sales quadruple in Japan, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. With Sony’s PlayStation 4 officially announced and hype building for the announcement of Microsoft’s next console, Eidos Montreal, one of the many development studios of Square Enix known for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has announced Thief as a reinvention of a franchise known to develop its own genre of video game releases. Releasing on PlayStation 4, PC, and other next generation consoles *cough* the next Xbox *cough*, there is a rising tide of fear in The City as hatred infects every tone and while the rich thrive, those who are less fortunate are forced through misery and repression due to sickness and famine. Garrett, the master thief protagonist, provides the player with freedom to decide their very own path through the game’s diverse challenges and levels. Said to release during 2014, it will be interesting to see Eidos bring the series back to life after its latest release back in 2004 and considering the power of the PlayStation 4 and sure to be next Xbox, it’s exciting to see where Eidos can take Thief next.

Despite the anticipation behind Dead Space 3, the sales of the latest release in the franchise have failed to meet expectations causing many rumors to circulate around Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the franchise, cancelling the ongoing development of Dead Space 4. In response to these accusations, an employee of Visceral Games, the development team behind the Dead Space franchise, has come out and claimed the rumors to be “completely false based on my knowledge.” As a fan of the Dead Space franchise, I would hope to see the franchise live onto the next generation consoles and see what Visceral Games can accomplish with added power being provided.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Hiroshi Kawano, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, announced that the sales of the PlayStation Vita have quadrupled since the Japan-only price drop of the handheld. While no rumors even suggest a price drop for North America and/or Europe, I would not be surprised to hear an announcement come E3 2013 to encourage PlayStation fans to adopt the handheld to further enrich their future PlayStation 4 experience.
