Star Wars 1313 may be alive despite shutdown of LucasArts, former Electronic Arts executive justifies PlayStation 4’s “cheaper hardware”, and God of War: Ascension receives new features and fixes, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. The news of Disney shutting down the long-lasting videogame development house, LucasArts, causing some 150 people to lose their job has devastated the industry in the fact that those laid off must now seek new work to support their families, but also because of their ongoing projects, Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313. With rumors circulating that both projects have been cancelled, Miles Perkins, a LucasFilm spokesperson, has released the following statement “Both current Star Wars games projects have been halted.” Both Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313 could release via external licensing, but the chance of this happening is very slim and looking at previous titles that have experienced such changes, the end result is usually unfavorable. With the amount of hype generated by Star Wars 1313 at E3 2012, I would certainly hope to see an attempt made to keep the game alive, but according to the founder of Avalanche Studios, the development house behind the Just Cause franchise, “Team members told me that they needed another two years to complete SW: 1313.” Depressing to say the least, but hopefully with time, something will come out of this downtime for all of the video game industry.

Ben Cousins, head of development of The Drowning at Scattered Entertainment and former Electronic Arts executive, recently spoke out on the hardware of the PlayStation 4 by stating “It was interesting to see PS4 clearly go for what looks like cheaper hardware than last time around,” Cousins justified Sony’s decision with two possible reasons: fear of a smaller install base and/or wanting to hit profitability quicker due to Sony’s less than favorable financial state. While no official price has been announced for the PlayStation 4, if what Cousins portrays is true, gamers should be in for a console that doesn’t break the bank as much as its predecessor once did.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, God of War: Ascension’s multiplayer experience is in for a treat thanks to its upcoming 1.04 update enriching the experience further. Included in the update, the allegiance level cap will be raised from 30 to 40 with a new item, two new relics, and ultimate magic for each allegiance level obtained. Players will also be able to access their accomplishments in battles through the main menu thanks to the new ‘Champion Stats’. Lastly, the update will fix the many reported audio issues, will optimize matchmaking, and fine-tune weapon shard drops and unlock requirements for certain armor pieces, magic, and weapon stats. Sounds like a very healthy update to me and the fact that the update will be absolutely free is even better!
