PS4’s social aspects and Killzone: Shadow Fall evaluated by Hideo Kojima, recap of Nintendo’s Direct event, and Electronic Arts announces latest sports release, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Hello everyone and welcome to Nick’s Gaming View, you are here with your host, Nick McCandless. Hideo Kojima, creator of the successful Metal Gear franchise, has been in the media a lot recently with talks of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. While Kojima hasn’t been 100% open about the next generation of consoles he has released a statement regarding Guerilla Games’ upcoming Killzone: Shadow Fall and PlayStation 4’s social aspects “I think it depends on the people creating the games. For example, Killzone looks very traditional; it probably won’t change very much. It will probably be similar to what you’ve seen before, but if the creators are very conscious of all the social aspects, and working that into their method of storytelling, then I think we’ll see some very interesting things happen. I think, at the very least, next gen broadens the possibilities of what can be done with storytelling.” During Sony’s February 20th event, Sony made it clear that the idea of social interactivity will play a large role in the success of the PlayStation 4, covering an aspect of gaming the PlayStation 3 didn’t so well of capturing, so hopefully Sony has put the pieces together and will deliver a true social experience they are hyping for their upcoming console.

Nintendo hosted their announced Nintendo Direct event this morning unveiling a few surprise announcements and welcome improvements to Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS platforms. Arguably the biggest surprise was the announcement of Nintendo’s 3DS receiving a new Zelda set in the world of ‘A Link to the Past’ in a top-down approach. Continuing on 3DS, a new Yoshi’s Island and Mario Party will also make their way to the handheld further strengthening the software lineup of Nintendo’s latest gaming handheld. Regarding Nintendo’s Wii U, Pikmin 3 has been announced for release on August 4th and the console will receive a system update next week including Virtual Console with the launch lineup including: Excitebike, Super Mario World, Mario Bros. Punch-Out, Super Metroid, Balloon Fight, and F-Zero. Must admit, Nintendo had a pretty good showing that any fan of Nintendo is sure to appreciate.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Electronic Arts has announced their latest sports release, FIFA 14 focusing on “the emotion of scoring great goals”. Releasing this fall on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, it’s no surprise to see EA announce a sequel to their successful soccer franchise, but to hear nothing about an appearance on next generation consoles makes me believe come E3 2013, EA will showcase new features coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4 and next Xbox.
