Italy Needs Pizza Makers Desperately

There is a high demand for pizza makers in Italy.

Although economic troubles continue to plague much of Europe, Italy has thousands of jobs open for one specific profession.

Pizza makers are desperately needed in the country. There is reportedly a shortage of 6,000 employees in the pizza making business.

According to a report issued by the Italian Federation of Confcommercio Companies for Italy, pie making businesses are having a very rough time filling these positions despite the fact that the region is enduring the highest unemployment rate in 20 years.

Many say that the conditions are simply too hot for workers in the pizzerias. A restaurant owner in Rome has his own theory stating “The Italian mindset is that being a pizza-maker is humiliating. It is a manual labor job.”

Reportedly, many pizza making jobs are going to immigrants from Egypt.

The history of pizza dates back thousands of years. Believe it or not, pizza has been around since the 6th century BC. Historians recorded that Persian soldiers used to bake flat breads on their shields and cover them with cheese. In Pompeii, amidst the ashes, there is evidence of the popularity of the flat pizza pie.
