En bagarre pour la première place depuis le départ du Rallye d’Argentine, les équipages du Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team bouclent la première étape aux deuxième et troisième rangs. Sébastien Loeb et Daniel Elena sont pointés à 16’’3 de la tête, 1’’8 devant leurs équipiers Mikko Hirvonen et Jarmo Lehtinen.
