Adobe Creative Cloud to wipe out Creative Suite

Adobe Systems surprised everyone at its annual MAX Conference this week when the company announced it would be ditching the Creative Suite System for Creative Cloud.

Adobe's Creative Suite has been the backbone of the professional design industry for the better part of 10 years. But sadly, this reign has come to an end after Adobe announced it will no longer sell boxed versions or perpetual licenses for software newer than CS6. Instead, users will have to subscribe to Adobe's Creative Cloud service in order to keep their software up to date.

Packages range from $20 a month (one app) to $75 a month (for new users). The cost of the package depends on whether or not you are a first-time buyer and the length of commitment.

The change means users will go from paying for expensive software upgrades to paying a monthly fee. Some users see the change to a subscription based model as a greedy move by Adobe's executives. The entire CS6 will still be available, but Adobe plans to only offer "security updates as necessary and may provide bug fixes."
