STORY: A rare tornado swept through the northeastern outskirts of Milan on Wednesday, causing damage and fear among local residents, but no reported injuries.

Amateur video filmed from a moving car showed the tornado progressing alongside the A4 motorway, with debris swirling around as if in slow motion.

" Oh, Virgin Mary! What if it hits us?" the voice of the driver could be heard saying as he films. "This is a real storm" the man added.

Witnesses said that the tornado seemed to move slowly, giving the impression that it lasted minutes.

The twister, which did not cause casualties, left a trail of damaged vehicles, industrial hangars and trees along its path.
