Fencing may be more useful than just being a hobby in the modern world. Franco Scaramuzza is a fencing instructor who helped stop a robbery by chasing the suspects, while holding his sword.

Scaramuzza had just arrived at a shopping center in Nashville when he witnessed two males using pepper spray on a couple. The culprits then stole the woman’s purse.

Scaramuzza stated “The first thing that went through my head is somebody should do something, and that's when I got really upset and disappointed with myself, because I realized I had the opportunity to do something.”

That caused him to spring into action. Scaramuzza quickly hopped out of the driver’s seat. He grabbed his fencing sword and charged towards the two men.

He also yelled at the suspects, who took notice of the sword. They dropped the purse and hurriedly took off on foot. Police were contacted and gave chase to the males. They were both apprehended within minutes.

Scaramuzza claimed the decision to go after the alleged robbers was all about overcoming fears and trying to do the right thing, the same type of principles he teaches in his class.
