The first of a planned two satellites was launched into orbit today by a Russian Soyuz-STA rocket from Kourou in French Guiana at 21:02 UTC on April 3rd 2014. The European satellite - Sentinel-1A, will monitor land surface changes, arctic environment, marine environment and help map disaster areas during a crisis.
