Memphis Pickaninny Band - Some Jazz Blues

Unfortunately, hardly any information is available about this band which recorded only one single side in 1917. "Lost Sounds: Blacks and the Birth of the Recording Industry, 1890-1917" (Illinois University Press) states: "The song, "Some Jazz Blues", was recorded about June 1917, at the very start of the "jazz boom". It cannot even be certain that this is a black orchestra, as Pathé said nothing substantive about them and no mention of them has been found in the contemporary black press. However, the name and the performance style, as well as the fact that Pathé was recording black musicians about this time, suggest that it may have been. (...)".
