Elevator shaft fall: Construction worker dies after plunging 20+ floors in NY - TomoNews

A New York worker fell to his death down an unfinished elevator shaft at the construction site of a future luxury hotel at 301 West 46th Street Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The construction site will be the future Riu Plaza Times Square, a hotel that's being overseen by the Rinaldi Group. The company's website states that the 29-to-31-story building is scheduled to be finished in the summer of 2015.
Two construction workers were operating the elevator to install elevator door frames when the car stalled about five feet above the 24th floor landing, according to AM New York. One worker jumped from the carriage down to the 24th floor landing, but when the second worker tried, he fell backward into the elevator shaft.
The fallen worker, identified by the New York Times as 25-year-old Christian Gisci, fell into the building's cellar at around 12:40 p.m., according to the New York Post.
The New York Daily News reported that rescue workers reached the worker about 20 minutes later, and that witnesses said he was bleeding from his face.
Gisci was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition at around 1:00 p.m., but he died from his injuries at 1:26 p.m., the New York Post reported police sources as saying.
