Michael ‘Jim’ Delligatti was one of the burger chain’s earliest franchise owners, setting up a Pittsburgh outpost in 1957, notes the Wall Street Journal.
Over time, he acquired many additional stores.
His location in Uniontown is where he created the double decker burger that would go on to become McDonald’s signature item.
McDonald's issued a statement about Delligatti that read, in part, “We will remember Jim as an insightful franchisee, a knowledgeable businessman, and an honorable gentleman who left a legacy of four generations of family members running great restaurants in Pennsylvania and North Carolina."
