Sadly, the man who invented the iconic drinkware has passed away, reports WFLD.
Robert Leo Hulseman died on December 21 at the age of 84.
Hulseman began his career with the Solo Cup Company when he was 18, notes PEOPLE.
Though his father owned the business, he started at the bottom and worked his way up, becoming the CEO in 1980.
It was during his time at the top that he came up with the red cup idea.
That invention has gone on to hold an unimaginable amount of various liquids and an important place in American drinking culture.
It has even been celebrated in Toby Keith’s hit, “Red Solo Cup.”
