Iraqi forces discovered a mass grave at the abandoned Al-Bakara Base, a former Iraqi military outpost used by Islamic State militants to execute hundreds of Iraqi soldiers and civilians near Hawija in the Kirkuk province on November 11.Rakan Said, the acting governor of Kirkuk, announced the discovery of the mass grave just hours before Shiite militia leaders arrested Hassan al-Tikriti, the alleged IS commander responsible for the executions. Hassan al-Sufi, a local Popular Mobilization Unit commander in Kirkuk, told the media that al-Tikriti confessed his responsibility for the mass executions without providing any further details.
