1 ‘Mudra’, a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Seal’, is a symbolic or ritual gesture in Hinduism and Buddhism.

2 Mudras are formed by joining or placing the fingers and hands in various positions to give certain results.

3 As per mythology, Lord Shiva is regarded to have started the basic of Mudras.

4 There are different types of Mudras, some involve the entire body but most are performed with just hands and fingers.

5 As per ‘Hathapradipika’ and ‘Shiv Samhita’ there are ten types of Mudras.

6 Mudra is found in all forms and is used in dance, religion, art and also in Tantra.

7 In Yoga, Mudras are used to stimulate different parts of the body involved with breathing and to affect the flow of ‘Prana’ in the body.

8 Mudras help us to connect with the higher supreme consciousness.

9 Mudras help in keeping the body in perfect condition.

10 A regular practice of Mudras can cure arthritis, insomnia and memory loss.
