Spanish tourist, 26, dies after falling down waterfall on Thai island

A Spanish tourist has been found dead after slipping on wet rocks and falling down a waterfall in Thailand.
David Rocamundi Conesa, 26, was with seven other friends hiking 1km to the top of the idyllic Na Muang 2 waterfall in Koh Samui on Saturday (July 27).
The group reached the peak and posed for pictures overlooking the breathtaking jungle scenery.
The last picture of David shows him in blue shorts and white vest, looking down over the water as it splashed over the rocks.
But tragically, just moments later the youngster from Barcelona slipped while police believe he was trying to clamber down over the wet surface of the boulders.
Rescuer workers searched the area and later that night found David's lifeless body lying in a pool between boulders near the bottom of the waterfall.
He had a six-inch-long wound on his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police recovered the body the next morning as it was too dark to reach.
Police assistant Suphakit Phetset said David's body was found at around 11pm on Saturday night. Suphakit said: ''Police and the rescue foundation team could not recover the body because of the conditions at night.
''The body was partially submerged in shallow water. His face was in the water. We believe that the victim suffered a head wound and then drowned in the pool among the rocks.
''From interviewing friends of the tourist, it is expected that he was trying to walk down the waterfall on his own and slipped and fell. However, the exact cause of death will be investigated.''
David's friends told police that after taking pictures at the top of the waterfall, he left the group and decided to walk back down on his own.
The others walked back to their accommodation before asking staff to call the emergency services when he had failed to return by 4:30pm.
He was found at around 11pm, still wearing the same blue shorts and top as he had been wearing in the last picture of him. Rescue workers put his body on a stretcher the next morning.
Officials on the island contacted the Spanish embassy to inform David's relatives of his death.
Police assistant Suphakit added: ''We must remind everybody travelling to Koh Samui to be extra careful in the nature. Always stay with the group or tour guides.''
