MANILA - Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco said they are holding followers of Nur Misuari in Zamboanga City responsible for the deaths and destruction following days of fighting. Climaco said those behind the atrocities should face the full force of the law. "We hold you responsible and accountable for the lives of the dead, the houses burned and the hostages still suffering. May you all be met with the full force of the law," she said in a statement. Climaco said the conflict in Zamboanga City is not a conflict of religion. Several religious leaders were with Mayor Climaco at the press conference. They expressed support for efforts to end the fighting. A Muslim youth leader also denied calling for a jihad.
