A Tasmanian inquiry has heard how socio-economic factors might have played a role in sexual abuse being perpetrated against children on a disturbing scale allowing some offenders to continue to assault children over decades. The commission of inquiry has now turned its attention to understanding what it is about Tasmanian society that may have allowed mistreatment to occur on such a broad scale.
