The 2024 GR86 TRUENO Special Edition is Toyota's Tribute to a Legend
Toyota makes just 860 of these special GR86s, and they all get special performance products
The 2024 Toyota GR86 TRUENO Edition is a clear and direct return to the AE86. As such, it comes with much more than fancy graphics to continue the drifting fun. Every day, GR86 buyers also get some upgrades and available options to look forward to.
Forty years have passed since the AE86 debuted, and it reached the peak of its popularity in the 1990s with the Trueno GT-Apex Liftback. This new GR86 calls it back with more performance features and a black and white "Panda" color scheme called Halo. It says another color, called Track bRed, will also be coming. Toyota will build just 860 units in total for the entire US.
Besides the obvious visual feedback, the new GR86 TRUENO Edition features exclusive ZF Sachs shock absorbers and Brembo brakes. Shock absorbers use nitrogen and oil to absorb vibrations, maximize ground contact, and support solid, stable steering. They are common in the aftermarket and are generally reputable.
In addition, Brembo brakes use a four-piston caliper for the front and a two-piston for the rear. The rotors are smooth so there is no drilling or grooving of any kind. Buyers can choose between automatic or manual transmission.
All TRUENO cars will come with 18-inch 10-spoke aluminum wheels, along with black door handles and mirror caps. It will produce 228 hp (170 kW) and 184 lb-ft (259 Nm) of torque, all the same as the regular version.
Performance parts from the TRUENO Edition will be available in the rest of the GR86 series. For those who wish, the performance package can even be applied to the 2022 and 2023 versions of the GR86. Finally, the GR86 Active Safety is available on models equipped with a manual transmission.
