You'd think racing would be, y'know, a thing. In Sonic 3, it was: 2D platforming races. ... wait, I'm getting deja vu. So before there was Sonic R, there was Sonic Drift, basically a hedgehog-branded version of Sega's famous Out Run racing series. And despite being compressed onto the Game Gear - and having a very unfortunately placed item button - Sonic Drift 2 is what it sets out to be: Out Run with Sonic and friends. Granted, Out Run and its contemporaries (like Mach Rider and Pole Position) are kind of an acquired taste...
