Christmas cheer was in the air at the Vatican on Sunday (December 23) as pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square to see Pope Benedict hold Angelus before the holidays.

After conducting the prayer service from the window of his private apartments, Benedict took a moment to mark the holidays, offering his Christmas greetings in various languages.

The pope will hold a midnight mass on Monday (December 24) and deliver his traditional Urbi et Orbi message to the world on Christmas Day (December 25).
