Portugal train crash survivor recounts wreck

Train carriages mangled in the wake of a crash in central Portugal that left at least 13 people injured.

One survivor recounts the accident.

SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) VICTIM OF THE TRAIN WRECK, BEATRIZ PRANCHA, SAYING:

"Something like this never happened to me before. I have been travelling so much and this is the first time something like this happens. I'm in shock. I'm in pain. My nose and leg hurt."

The crash occurred late Monday night when a train carrying almost 80 passengers from Lisbon hit the rear of a second regional train.

The collision derailed the trains.

(SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) VICTIM OF THE TRAIN WRECK, BEATRIZ PRANCHA, SAYING:

"It was a very big impact, everybody was falling down and I started to panic. Then I was hospitalised and was discharged just moments ago."

The Portuguese government has ordered an investigation into the crash.
