Defiance is a third-person shooter and MMO, most simply stated. It's also a sci-fi television show on the SyFy network. They're calling this a "trans-media" experience, but it's really just an average MMO with glaring technical issues. Create your character and drop onto a bleak future Earth, torn apart by war between humans and aliens. The game drops you right into the middle of the conflict, which is certainly a rush and one of the game's strong points. It also bases character creation on origins rather than classes, which is an interesting take on the MMO standard. The gameplay comes down to a perfectly decent third-person shooter, but the issue with Defiance is that it runs surprisingly poorly on the PlayStation 3.
