Shining Soul is... not Shining Force. There are several glaring differences, as the "Shining" series has taken any number of forms since Camelot's departure from Sega's stable of developers in the Saturn era. Instead of a tactical, grid-based RPG, this take by Grasshopper Manufacture (That's right, Suda51 has a credit on this) takes the adventuring into a more action-based experience, optimized for up to four-player multiplayer using GBA link cables. This video review features video gameplay footage of Shining Soul for GBA and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.
