Life expectancy for Koreans edges up to 82.4 years

South Koreans born in the year 2016 are expected to live more than 82 years, at least 1-point-6 years longer than the OECD average.
According to the OECD Health Statistics, South Koreans' life expectancy at birth averaged 82-point-4 years in 2016, slightly up from the previous year's 82-point-1 years.
The report also showed that the chances of dying from cancer stood at 27-point-1 percent for males born in 2016, and 16-point-4 percent for females, while the death rate from heart diseases stood at 10-point-1 percent for males and 13 percent for females.
The suicide rate for South Koreans decreased from 33-point-3 people per 10-thousand in 2011 to 25-point-8 per ten-thousand in 2015, but was still the highest rate in the OECD.
