Gradius: Interstellar Assault is a side-scrolling shoot ‘em up and the second Gradius game released to the original Game Boy. The first was 1990’s Nemesis, which was actually a Gradius game with a different name. For its North American release, Nemesis II was named Gradius: Interstellar Assault. Makes total sense, as the naming process for video games often does. Fortunately, the gameplay is a lot more straightforward. Gradius: Interstellar Assault has the same classic SHMUP gameplay the Gradius series has mastered for decades. Like its predecessor, it’s also an impressive release for the original Game Boy, with lots of enemies, solid graphics and minimal slowdown. This video review features video gameplay footage of Gradius: Interstellar Assault for the Game Boy and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
