When Nintendo proclaimed 2013 to be the Year of Luigi, they weren’t kidding. The green-clad plumber starred in two of the year’s best 3DS games before capping it off with New Super Luigi U, a fantastic piece of downloadable content for the Wii U launch title New Super Mario Bros. U. New Super Luigi U is essentially Mario U remixed, with all-new—and much more difficult—level designs. Players play as Luigi this time, and as usual, Luigi handles very differently than his chubby brother. He can jump substantially higher and get much more mid-air hang time, but at the same time, he slips and slides around like he’s constantly walking on ice. This can make simply controlling Luigi a difficult proposition, let alone getting him through the game’s challenging levels. We’re not saying New Super Luigi U is the Wii U’s answer to Nintendo’s legendary Lost Levels, but we’re not saying it isn’t, either. This video review features video gameplay footage of New Super Luigi U for the Nintendo Wii U and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
