Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of 1001 Spikes on the eShop for the Nintendo Wii U developed by 8bits Fanatics and published by Nicalis. Up for a good challenge? Well, you might want to look elsewhere, because 1001 Spikes isn’t even a challenge—it’s a death wish. One of the most difficult platformers in years, 1001 Spikes is a game that revels in its insanity. It gives you 1,001 lives to start, but it also takes a few dozen per level. How gracious of you, 1001 Spikes. You play as Aban Hawkins, the son of Treasure Island’s Jim Hawkins. Aban is an adventurer seeking treasure in caves and tombs with spikes. We can’t be sure of the actual figures, but 1,001 seems accurate. Inspired by the NES days and sporting a gorgeous 8-bit style, 1001 Spikes is for those who like their games to punch back. The game supports single-player play and local multiplayer. This video review features video gameplay footage of 1001 Spikes on the eShop for the Nintendo Wii U and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek.
