LAPD said officer followed protocol in the detainment of ‘Django’ actress Daniele Watts

Los Angeles police are disputing an accusation that race played a role in the handcuffing and detention of a black actress last week.

On Monday LAPD officials said officers followed protocol when they detained Daniele Watts after she refused to provide identification.

Watts, who has appeared in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," and in the television series Weeds, made headlines after accusing the LAPD of a racially motivated detainment.

Watts said she and her boyfriend were simply kissing in their car, but police said they were responding to a 911 call reporting an incident of indecent exposure.

Police said Watts’ handcuffs were removed once Lucas provided her identification. We spoke with Watts’ publicist via email to hear her account of what happened, but were told the couple would no longer be conducting interviews.
