A top-down shooter similar to games like Ikari Warriors and Commando, Heavy Barrel is a quintessential example of 1980s male fantasy land, a place where every movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and every video game is Contra. Except Heavy Barrel, which is Heavy Barrel. Players must infiltrate a nuclear missile site that’s been overrun by terrorists and bring down the bad guys. Fortunately, you have lots and lots of bullets. The gameplay is mostly standard for the genre, but you can also piece together a massive weapon called the Heavy Barrel by collecting pieces from lockboxes. Once it’s assembled, it can annihilate everything on the screen—but only for 90 seconds, so annihilate quickly! Heavy Barrel features single-player and local cooperative play on the NES.
