Chennai LGBT Community Marks Gay Sex Ruling With Cake and Chocolate

India’s Supreme Court on September 6 struck down a colonial-era ban on consensual gay sex, marking a landmark victory for the country’s LGBTQ community.A statement from Chief Justice Dipak Misra said the law, called Section 377, was “irrational, arbitrary and incomprehensible as it fetters the right to equality for LGBT community,” adding that “homosexuality was not a mental problem,” the Times of India reported.In Chennai, members of the LGBTQ community celebrated by sharing chocolates and cake and singing.
